Those wholesale distributors that achieve accreditation are in compliance with state and federal laws, as well as NABP’s (National Association of Boards of Pharmacy®) VAWD criteria. VAWD accreditation is at the forefront of preventing counterfeit drugs from entering the United States’ drug supply – it protects the public from tampered drugs, whether they may have been contaminated, diverted, or counterfeited. The current distribution path of the United States’ prescription drugs is a very complex path to the patient.  VAWD accreditation helps aid this distribution path and ensures that the wholesale distribution facility operates legitimately, is licensed in good standing, and is employing security and best practices. These are extremely important for safely distributing prescription drugs.

To become a wholesale distributor that is able to display the VAWD Seal, the wholesale company must undergo a criteria compliance review. The review looks into license verification, a meticulous review of their operating policies and procedures, an analysis of their facility and operations, as well as background checks.
